I keep coming back to it. The Pencil Skirt. Perfect for all occasions. Perfect for all body types. Timeless. It’s got it all. These days as much as it pains me, we really have Kim Kardashian to thank for this trend. Cinched at the waist, the skirt falls just below the knee and can be paired with essentially anything. I have it paired with heels, and a loose sweater in a summer colour for a day at the office. But it can be easily taken to cocktail hour if you wear a cami underneath and ditch the sweater at 5:01.
I am definitely normally not a mini-skirt kind of girl, so this length/look is my favourite option.
When searching for the right fit, there are a few things to look out for:
1. Fit. Ensure that the size is right. Too tight, and it won’t skim the body but rather be pulling and revealing in all the wrong ways. Too lose, and it could look frumpy. Fit is your friend.
2. Length. I find that 3-5 inches below the knee is perfect. Depending on your height.
3. Rise. The timeless look is for it to hit right at your natural waist. This is the most flattering as it’s the smallest part of your waist as well as encouraging the hourglass shape.
4. Color/Fabric- anything goes. There is so much on the market right now at all prices, no doubt you’ll find the perfect one…or two.
