“Grunge is nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money,” the designer Jean Paul Gaultier toldVogue in 1993, the year fashion co-opted the look.
Acid wash jeans, flannel shirts, this was more utilitarian then anything, until Sonic Youth and Nirvana hit the scene. Cut to 2014- when the 90’s and grunge is having a comeback. Now…well…..even the richest of the rich are sporting this trend. Thanks Kylie Kardashian.
I gotta admit though, I’m loving it. Maybe that’s because I grew up in the 90’s (born in the 80’s), and this is just reliving my high school days and the nostalgia is getting to me. But it’s hella comfortable, easy to put together and thanks to the Zara sale (f#$king evil)- there are a ton of great pieces out there available at every price point. Although, if you want to be authentic- scoop out your local Salvation Army or second-hand store. I have found some amazing pieces in there lately.
And luckily- this look basically looks perfect with my unbrushed dirty hair. Bonus.
